State of Indiana vs. Michael Stayer

Lebanon, Boone County, Indiana – Prosecuting Attorney Todd J. Meyer announced today that
a guilty plea hearing has been scheduled in the case of State of Indiana v. Michael Stayer, cause number 06C01-0906-MR-176. Judge Steve David set the hearing for December 17, 2009 at 9AM and it will be conducted in the Boone County Circuit Court.

In this case Michael Stayer is accused of murdering his ex-wife Beth Stayer along with allegedly committing the crimes of aggravated battery, battery resulting in serious bodily injury, domestic battery and two counts of child neglect for allegedly committing the murder in the direct presence of his five year old son and within his 2 year old daughter’s ability to hear and/or see the murder. Beth Stayer died as the result of complications of blunt force trauma to the head. This incident occurred at 6334 El Paso Street, Whitestown, Indiana on the morning of June 11, 2009 in the new Anson town home development that is located near the intersection of I-65 and St. Rd. 334.

Prosecutor Meyer stated he is not able to discuss the terms of the plea agreement at this time as the plea agreement itself has not yet been filed with the Court. Prosecutor Meyer further stated that he and the police, along with that of the victim’s family, will likely make a statement to the public at the conclusion of the sentencing hearing when the case is officially closed. At this time a date for the sentencing hearing is not known but it is anticipated that the Court will set a date for the defendant’s setnencing following the conclusion of the defendant’s guilty plea hearing.
